Description

This rune inscribed on a magical piece of wood, stone, metal, crystal, or bone can be affixed to an item by a Runesmith (and Aethyrflame with the Runesmith feature).

When affixed to an item, the item becomes magical it it wasn’t already and requires attunement. Any damage dealt by the affixed item is considered magical for the purposes of overcoming resistances and the item becomes resilient to normal wear and damage.

The object resizes to fit the size of the creature attuned to it and can be summoned to the hand of the attuned creature as a bonus action. An Aethyrflame creature can only attune to one rune-bound item unless they are a Runesmith of sufficient level.

In addition to the base features described above, this rune also enchants the item with the following benefits when its used as a weapon. The power of the effect increases as the attuned creature’s Aethyrflame Intensity level reaches level 7 and 13.

  • Level 1:
When this weapon is attuned to an Aethyrsoul, the attuner's hit point maximum is reduced by half, rounded up, as the weapon siphons energy to fuel its enchantment.
When the attuned wielder of this weapon is reduced to zero hit points or dies, they are reduced to 1 hit point instead and remain standing. Once used, this feature cannot be used again until your next long rest, or until a creature with an ignited Aethyrflame dies within 30 feet of the wielder.
Base weapon damage dealt with this weapon is necrotic.
Necrotic damage dealt with this weapon provides the wielder temporary hit points equal to the damage dealt. These temporary hit points last until the weapon deals necrotic damage again.
  • Level 7:
When you kill a creature with this weapon, you regain hit points equal to your proficiency bonus. Summoned creatures and other creatures who are sent back to their home plane when reduced to 0 HP are not considered to be killed for this effect.
  • Level 13: When this weapon is attuned to an Aethyrsoul, the attuner's hit point maximum is reduced by half, rounded up, as the weapon siphons energy to fuel its enchantment.
When the attuned wielder of this weapon is reduced to zero hit points or dies, they are reduced to 1 hit point instead and remain standing. Once used, this feature cannot be used again until your next long rest, or until a creature with an ignited Aethyrflame dies within 30 feet of the wielder.
