Full Description

Mulvarps are subterranean humanoids with features resembling that of moles. Short-statured but sturdy, these mole-folk have evolved to thrive in the labyrinthine tunnels and chambers they carve beneath the surface world. A Mulvarp's fur is generally earth-toned, ranging from deep browns to soft grays, ideal for blending into their environment. Their hands are large and clawed, perfect for digging and tunneling.

Society and Culture

Mulvarp society is organized around guild-like institutions, each focused on a particular craft or skill. From blacksmithing to alchemy, from masonry to mining—each guild serves as both a place of learning and a governing body. Leadership is based on expertise and accomplishment, and guildmasters hold significant influence within Mulvarp communities. Due to their subterranean lifestyle, Mulvarps have an intrinsic respect for the earth, viewing it as both their home and their lifeblood. Their communities are often insular and highly self-sufficient, valuing skill and craftsmanship above all else.

Government

The Mulvarp government is a composite of guilds, each led by its most accomplished member, known as the guildmaster. Together, these guildmasters form a governing council that oversees the affairs of the Mulvarp community. Decisions are reached through reasoned debate and consensus, with each guildmaster's voice weighted according to their expertise in the matter at hand.

Religion and Spirituality

Mulvarps do not commonly adhere to surface religions, but they have their own set of beliefs and superstitions related to the earth and underground spirits. Offerings of precious stones and minerals are often left in concealed alcoves to appease these subterranean deities.

Relations with Other Races

Due to their insular nature, Mulvarps are often wary of outsiders. However, they respect skill and craftsmanship, regardless of its source. Those who prove themselves in these areas may find warm acceptance within a Mulvarp community. Although they seldom venture above ground, Mulvarps are generally peaceable neighbors, preferring to avoid conflict when possible.

Homeland

Mulvarp communities are located deep underground, in expansive networks of tunnels and chambers. These settlements are marvels of engineering, with intricate, well-designed infrastructures to ensure the flow of fresh air, the drainage of water, and the structural integrity of their subterranean homes.

Adventurers

Mulvarp adventurers are rare but not unheard of. Often they are young guild apprentices sent out to gather rare materials, artifacts, or knowledge, or are those rare individuals born with an insatiable curiosity about the world above.
