Seraphs

Seraphs, called Seraphim in the Godspact, are the servants of the Pure Realms. In the Hierarchy of the Heavens set out by the first pact, the Otaani Balance, they rank below the Archons, whose guidance they follow.

Seraphs were once mortal. They are passed spirits who aligned themselves with one of the Pure Realms and won the favor of the gods, who raised them to this station. Not every spirit is chosen: those who are not pass on to a fate shaped by their own beliefs and by the beliefs of the mortals who remember them.

Seraphs make up most of the population of the Pure Realms and carry out many kinds of service there under the direction of the Archons. Unlike the gods, they can act directly in the mortal realm, but only at the will of an Archon or a higher being, and they must follow the rules of Divine Conduct while they do. The first pact also charged them, with the Guardians, to recover any Fragment of Creation that fell into non-mortal hands and hide it again among mortals.

Mortals who meet a Seraph rarely know it. The Transitive Planes are described as places where Seraphs and Archons contend for influence.

The renewed Godspact of the Phoenix Chryseum dissolved this hierarchy and lists the Seraphim among the intermediaries that are now gone.
