The Gran are the giantfolk of Aradaea. They descend from the Haku-Grana, the proto-giants, whose line was transformed by magic. The titans came first, and from them the storm, cloud, fire, frost and stone giants branched away; the mountain and hill giants descend in turn from the stone giants.

Giants are among the longest-lived peoples of Aradaea, many reaching a thousand years and the titans far longer. Several further lines are of mixed descent, joining stone giant ancestry with humans, elves or proto-orcs. In Sylvaria’s Vargal Valley, goliath and ogre tribes live alongside Grekkin clans and vassalized humans.

  • Gran-Tita (Titans): the eldest giants, ancestors of most of the others.
  • Gran-Stoma, Gran-Cloda, Gran-Fira and Gran-Frosa: the storm, cloud, fire and frost giants, all of Vogdu.
  • Gran-Stona (Stone Giants): the stone giants of the Vargal, ancestors of several mixed lines.
  • Gran-Maku and Gran-Haku: the mountain and hill giants, also of the Vargal.
  • Gran-Doda (Ettins) and Gran-Grek (Ogres): stone giant and proto-orc lines of the Blackchasm.
  • Gran-Gola (Goliaths): nomadic bands of mixed human and giant descent who prize strength and are known for raiding settled folk.
  • Gran-Elda (Firbolgs): scattered, solitary families of mixed elven and giant descent with a deep respect for nature.
