Mortality
Mortality is the condition shared by the living beings of Geminaea: they are born, they live and they die. It is also one of the forces that shape the world, because mortals are more than its inhabitants. Every mortal carries a mote of the arcane, and through their collective belief the gods themselves take form. The hopes and fears of mortal beings therefore stand behind much of divinity and the planes.
Death and the Gods
Section titled “Death and the Gods”Mortal attitudes toward death are reflected in the sects. The Church of the Passing teaches that death gives life its meaning and honors the ancestors, while the Cult of the Eternal Soul seeks to break the chains of mortality altogether. Among the planes, Umbratel is often described as a stark reminder of mortality and decay.
The Soul
Section titled “The Soul”Each mortal soul carries an Aethyr Knot, a pattern of Aethyr gathered over a lifetime. In rare cases it ignites into an Aethyrflame. The Aethyrsparked who bear one linger in the mortal plane for a time after death, which makes them eligible for magical revival that is denied to others.
Mortals and the Divine
Section titled “Mortals and the Divine”The Godspact sets out the relationship between mortals and the gods after the God Wars, and records how mortal belief continues to shape the divine.
