The Umbrage (Underdark)

The Umbrage is one of the Transitive Planes: a sprawling network of subterranean realms beneath the planets of Geminaea, made up of massive caverns and labyrinthine tunnels. Each planet’s Umbrage reflects the world above it. The depths of Aradaea are harsh and rich in minerals, those of Vitaea teem with subterranean life, and those of Ravena are shrouded in secrecy.

No daylight reaches the Umbrage. Conditions follow the world above, from dry mineral depths beneath Aradaea to damp, living caverns beneath Vitaea.

Societies in the Umbrage range from thriving underground civilizations, among them enigmatic peoples such as the drow, to savage and isolated enclaves. Little is recorded of most of them.

The tunnels form a maze, and the darkness hides peril of every kind. Those who seek the treasures of the Umbrage risk becoming lost, or meeting inhabitants who do not welcome outsiders.

Ancient ruins, eldritch artifacts and concentrated deposits of Aethyr lie hidden in the depths, drawing explorers and treasure seekers. For this reason the Umbrage is seen as a physical and magical link to Geminaea’s past.
