Machaboren (Warforged)

Machineborn

The Machaboren, or Machineborn, are humanoids built by other peoples through a blend of mechanical craft and magic, then imbued with a mortal soul. Most were made for a purpose, often war or labor, and they are usually found as individuals rather than as a community of their own.

No two designs are quite alike. Height, build and coloring vary with the maker and the work a Machaboren was built for, though all are hairless and heavier than their size suggests, with protection built into their frames.

Machaboren have no single homeland and can be found on many planes. The Warforged legions of Kaladar, first built by Kaladaran engineers as tireless soldiers, remain the best-known example and still form part of that republic’s defenses.

A Machaboren does not age as living peoples do and has no natural lifespan. Instead of sleeping, they rest in a watchful, sentry-like state. The heritage is thought to date back around 2,000 years. Most speak Aethyrian Common and at least one other language.

Because each carries a mortal soul, a Machaboren can ignite an Aethyrflame like anyone else, and for some that spark offers a purpose beyond the one they were built for.
