Smek-Smirfna (Deep Gnome)
The Smek-Smirfna are the deep gnomes of Aradaea, one of the Smek heritages. They branched from the Smek-Azura some 20,000 years ago, when their ancestors went to live underground and were changed by the place and by what they found to eat there.
Appearance
Section titled “Appearance”Deep gnomes are diminutive, around two and a half feet tall and about 50 pounds, with large eyes and floppy ears. Their skin is black, purple or blue, darker than their surface cousins’, and their hair is fine and straight, though many have little or none.
Society and Culture
Section titled “Society and Culture”Deep gnomes live in small, close enclaves with a cult-like character. Spiritual leaders guide each community, and their authority rests on a strong connection to the occult.
Homeland
Section titled “Homeland”Their home is Umbradaken, in the Underdark. Deep gnomes sense movement through the stone around them and know how to blend into it.
Life Cycle
Section titled “Life Cycle”A deep gnome can expect to live around 250 years, as long as the gnomes they came from.
Relations
Section titled “Relations”Deep gnomes still share their ancestors’ gift for artifice. Most speak Undercommon and Azuran Gnomish, the tongue of their surface kin, along with Aethyrian Common. The Smek-Haku are more distant relations under the Smek name.
