Year Structure

The calendar used throughout Geminaea is known as the Spiral, a civic-standard calendar established by the Raveni Office of the Guildpact to synchronize festivals, economic cycles, and interplanetary diplomacy. Rooted in both celestial regularity and symbolic philosophy, the Spiral reflects the balance of divine cycles, seasonal renewal, and mortal contribution through its structure.

A single Spiral year is composed of 360 days, divided evenly into 4 Arcs (seasons), each lasting 90 days. These Arcs are further subdivided into 12 Segments (months), each 30 days long and named for one of the Prime Deities.

Each 30-day Segment is made up of three Dekas—10-day periods that form the basic unit of mortal life, labor, and ritual. The names of the days in a Deka correspond to the Guilds of Ravena and serve as both a cultural rhythm and a practical workweek guide.

Each Arc contains three Segments (months), each associated with a deity and a suite of seasonal observances. This alignment strengthens metaphysical harmony between divine will, natural cycles, and mortal endeavor.

Between the end of one Spiral and the beginning of the next lies a short, liminal period known as the Realignment — a span of 4 or 5 days that exists outside the standard Arcs and Segments of the year.

Realignment serves several key functions:

  • Astral Calibration: These days allow celestial phenomena (such as moon-shadow drift, solar fluctuation, or Aethyr tides) to re-synchronize with the fixed structure of the Spiral.
  • Ritual Cleansing: Most cultures observe Realignment with quietude, fasting, or reflective rites. It is a time for ending old debts, recording legacies, and severing unwanted bindings.
  • Legal Suspension: In Ravena, most civic courts close during Realignment. Some laws are “paused,” and no official Guild proceedings may be initiated.
  • Free Days: For most laborers and travelers, Realignment is considered outside of guild labor cycles — offering a brief period of license or lawless celebration, depending on local custom.

No dates within Realignment are assigned guild-days or divine names, and most calendars refer to them simply as Realignment I, II, III, etc.

It is said that during Realignment, the threads of fate loosen — and in rare cases, some who vanish during this time are never found again.

There are no traditional “leap days” in the Spiral; Realignment absorbs minor celestial variances year to year. However, some interplanar societies recognize Errant Observances—festivals or portents that do not recur on fixed dates but are tracked by omen calendars or divine concordances instead.
