Submersibles
Submersibles are sealed vessels built to travel beneath the surface of seas, lakes and rivers. They open up a world that sail ships can only pass over, and they are among the more specialized forms of Geminaea’s transport.
How It Works
Section titled “How It Works”A submersible’s hull is built to hold out water and withstand pressure as it descends. An Aethyr engine, typically drawing on flux cells or another sealed store of Aethyr, turns its propellers and powers the systems that keep the crew alive: fresh air, light and heat in the dark below. Ballast tanks let the vessel sink or rise at will.
Common Uses
Section titled “Common Uses”Submersibles are used to explore and survey the depths, salvage wrecks, harvest resources from the sea floor, and inspect harbors and underwater structures. Some navies keep them for scouting and for striking unseen at surface ships.
Availability
Section titled “Availability”These are rare and expensive vessels. Most belong to guilds, research institutions, salvage companies or coastal powers, and few people ever travel in one.
A breach in the hull or a failing power cell can be fatal far below the surface, where escape is difficult and help is distant. The deep waters also hold creatures that do not welcome intruders.
