Golems
Golems are large constructs animated by magic to serve their makers. Their bodies are made of clay, stone, iron or even flesh, and they are given motion and a limited will by the Aethyr bound inside them.
How It Works
Section titled “How It Works”A golem’s maker shapes its body and then binds an animating force within it. The result obeys commands, does not tire, and needs neither food nor rest, but it has little judgment of its own. The material a golem is made from shapes its strength and resilience, and the skill of its maker decides how well it understands its orders.
Common Uses
Section titled “Common Uses”Golems guard vaults, temples and gates, carry heavy loads, and labor where living workers cannot or will not. A related craft produced the Warforged: arcane constructs built as tireless soldiers, combining mechanical bodies with bound magical intelligence. The Machaboren (Warforged) are now listed among Geminaea’s special heritages.
Availability
Section titled “Availability”Building a golem takes rare materials, skilled makers and a great deal of Aethyr, so golems are found mostly in the service of wealthy households, temples, guilds and governments. Smaller and cheaper work is usually left to drones.
A golem follows its orders exactly, and a poorly worded command or a lost controller can make it dangerous. If its binding weakens, a golem may stop, wander or turn on those nearby, and few people are able to stop one by force.
