Armor
Armor is the protective gear worn by soldiers, guards and adventurers across Geminaea. It ranges from padded cloth and leather to heavy plate, and in the most advanced workshops it is strengthened with Aethyr.
How It Works
Section titled “How It Works”Most armor works as it always has: layers of hide, metal or other tough materials that turn aside blades and soften blows. Aethyr-infused armor goes further. Because Aethyr suffuses matter and alters its potential, smiths and artificers can work it into metal and stone to give them properties ordinary materials lack, such as resistance to magic.
Common Uses
Section titled “Common Uses”Armor falls into light, medium and heavy armor, plus shields. Light armor can be worn by spellcasters, spellfighters and martial fighters alike; medium armor and shields suit spellfighters and martial fighters; and heavy armor is the province of martial fighters alone. Notable pieces show how far the craft can go: X, a champion of the Phoenix Chryseum, fights in spikeplate of molten obsidian behind a shield of spell-deflection.
Availability
Section titled “Availability”Ordinary armor is made wherever there are smiths. Aethyr-infused armaments need skilled artificers and a supply of Aethyr, so they are made in fewer places; which places is yet to be described.
Heavy armor is costly, tiring and slow to put on. Aethyr-infused pieces share the dangers of any concentrated Aethyr: a damaged enchantment can fail or behave unpredictably.
