Appliances
Appliances are the everyday devices of Geminaean homes, shops and workshops. Most are small, practical machines built to do one task well, and most are powered by Aethyr rather than by a spellcaster’s effort, which puts them within reach of people with no talent for magic.
How It Works
Section titled “How It Works”A typical appliance draws its energy from a flux cell, a sealed vessel of stored Aethyr that can be swapped and recharged. Because Aethyr amplifies heat, light and other currents passing through enchanted materials, a modest charge is enough to warm a stove, light a lamp with heatless light or turn a small motor.
Common Uses
Section titled “Common Uses”Appliances handle the routine work of daily life: cooking, cleaning, lighting, heating and cooling, and the simple tools of a craftsman’s bench. How widely they are used, and by whom, varies from place to place.
Availability
Section titled “Availability”Appliances are most common in Ravena and the larger cities of both planets, where cells are easy to buy and recharge. In rural areas, and in places where Aethyr technology is scarce or distrusted, households rely on older, unpowered tools.
An appliance is only as safe as its cell. Damaged, overcharged or counterfeit cells can leak unstable Aethyr, and a cheaply made device may fail at the worst possible moment.
