Social Frameworks

How Elemari society in Valdesh is organized. The main Valdesh page holds the region’s written lore, and these points restate it.

  • Community before self. The Elemari are largely collectivist. Individual ambition is tempered by responsibility to clan and settlement, and is even seen as spiritually suspect.
  • Councils, not rulers. Communities are guided by councils of consensus made up of druids, sages, shamans and others whose wisdom reflects long communion with the planes.
  • The Convergence Council. Since the Fourfold Compact, a rotating council of four regional delegates oversees shared affairs, and no single element may dominate shared territories.
  • Clustered by affinity. Most settlements form around one element, yet neighboring communities depend on one another through trade, seasonal Confluence Markets and mixed-affinity apprenticeships (see Economic Interdependence).
  • Family. Children are raised communally within affinity clusters, and elders guide rather than command. Marriage is seen as balance-building; cross-affinity unions are accepted but watched.
  • Ritual roles. Priests are rare. Confluence-Keepers, Rift-Wardens and Plane-Speakers serve instead, and adolescents undertake an Attunement Trial within a safe Confluence.

See Social Structure Details and Cultural Pressures for the tensions within this order.

Law, inheritance, rank within clans and how councils reach their decisions are yet to be described.
