Construction

Construction in Geminaea combines ordinary masonry, carpentry and engineering with Aethyr. The results range from humble timber homes to the high-rise districts of Ravena, and many of the most ambitious works, from city walls to aqueducts, rely on Aethyr-imbued architecture.

Builders work stone, wood, metal and glass much as they always have, but where Aethyr is available they add to them. Arcane conduits and crystal lattices carry energy through walls and towers, mechanical lifts raise loads up sheer cliffs, and Aethyr’s ability to let objects resist gravity makes floating platforms possible.

Building styles vary with climate, materials and wealth: stone and timber, works cut into cliffs or carved from mountainsides, structures grown from living materials, and the dense districts of Ravena. Which peoples build in which ways is left to the pages of each region.

Traditional building is found everywhere. Aethyr-imbued construction is costly and concentrated in wealthy cities and near Aethyr nodes.

Structures that depend on Aethyr can fail when their power does, and concentrated Aethyr in walls and foundations carries the usual risk of instability. Large works also demand skilled labor, and their collapse can be disastrous.
