Alchemist's Fire
Alchemist’s fire is a volatile alchemical substance that burns hot and fierce. It is one of Geminaea’s sources of energy, prized for the heat and light it gives off and feared for what it can do in the wrong hands.
How It Works
Section titled “How It Works”Alchemists prepare the substance from carefully combined reagents and seal it in flasks or other containers until it is needed. Once released and ignited, it burns hotter and longer than ordinary fuel. Some recipes are thought to draw on Aethyr, which amplifies the heat passing through matter, though most alchemists guard the details of their methods closely.
Common Uses
Section titled “Common Uses”In small amounts, alchemist’s fire feeds forges, kilns and furnaces that need intense heat, and provides heat and light where other fuels are scarce. It is also a weapon: thrown in a flask, it sets fire to whatever it strikes, and it has much in common with the alchemical bombs used in warfare.
Availability
Section titled “Availability”Any trained alchemist with the right supplies can make it, so it is easier to come by than refined Aethyr fuels such as Lyrium powder. Large quantities attract the attention of the authorities, and many cities regulate its sale and storage.
Alchemist’s fire is dangerous to make, store and carry. A cracked container, a careless spark or a fall can start a blaze that is very hard to put out, and workshops that handle it are a frequent source of accidents.
