Sylvar

The Sylvar, more often called the Sylvari, are the plantfolk of Vitaea and its original inhabitants. They were the first sapient people to rise on the planet after the Rending of Terra, and their guidance runs through the whole history of Vitaea. They are not to be confused with the plane of Sylvar, the Feywild.

The Sylvari are dryad-like beings whose very biology is bound up with the Aethyr, a trait that sets them apart from the beastfolk who came after them.

Each Sylvari emerges fully formed from the Ancestor Grove, guided by ancestral dreams and carrying the wisdom of earlier generations. They see themselves as stewards of the living land, nurturing its cycles of growth and decay, and they travel widely to offer counsel and mediation when other peoples quarrel.

Their roots are in the Ancestor Grove. Azorea, a land of dryads whose numbers are kept in balance by its World Tree, is the region most closely tied to them today.

When a Sylvari dies, the soul returns to the Grove and becomes part of the Ancestor Trees, so that no generation is ever wholly lost.

It was the Sylvari who began the Great Awakening, raising the beastfolk to sapience, and every Vitaean beastfolk heritage traces its ancestry to them. Most peoples still regard them as impartial guides.
