Flux Cells
Flux cells are sealed vessels that store Aethyr energy and release it on demand. They are one of the cornerstones of Geminaea’s Aethyrpunk technology: a source of energy that anyone can carry, so that a machine can run without a spellcaster beside it.
How It Works
Section titled “How It Works”A flux cell holds charged Aethyr inside a casing built to keep it stable. Conduits draw the energy out at a steady rate to power whatever the cell is connected to. Once a cell is drained, it can be recharged from a larger source, such as a workshop’s charging rig or, ultimately, the vast reserves of Aethyr that power Ravena.
Common Uses
Section titled “Common Uses”Flux cells power a wide range of everyday and specialized devices, including household appliances, communication devices, transport and flux-powered weapons. Cells are standardized in a handful of sizes, so they can be swapped between devices of the same kind.
Availability
Section titled “Availability”Small cells are common in Ravena and in the larger cities of both planets, where they are sold and recharged much like any other everyday good. Large or high-output cells cost more and are harder to come by, and their trade is often regulated.
A damaged or overcharged cell can leak unstable Aethyr, with effects that range from sparks and burns to violent ruptures. Careless handling, cheap counterfeits and cells pushed past their limits are a constant concern for anyone who relies on them.
