Umbratel, the Shadowfel

Umbratel is one of the Transitive Planes, a shadowed echo of the Mortal Planes seen through a lens of decay and despair. Its twilight landscapes are filled with crumbling ruins, and many cities and landmarks of the Mortal Planes have counterparts here, decayed and haunted.

The plane lies in endless twilight. Its melancholy atmosphere drains vitality and will, and prolonged exposure feeds on despair and loss.

Ghostly echoes of the living world linger in Umbratel. Its entities range from mournful spirits to predatory creatures drawn to the living.

The greatest danger is the plane itself, which slowly wears away at those who stay. Its influence can also reach beyond it: when Umbratel draws near, shadow distortions create eerie phenomena in the physical world.

Umbratel is a place of reckoning and existential confrontation, a stark reminder of mortality and decay. Those who travel there often go to face their fears and regrets, or to seek the shadowed counterpart of a place they know. The Divinity article lists the Shadowfel among the known planes of existence.
