Flux-powered Weapons

Flux-powered weapons are arms that draw their strength from flux cells, the sealed vessels of stored Aethyr that power much of Geminaea’s everyday technology. They put Aethyr-driven force into the hands of soldiers and guards who cannot cast spells themselves, and they are one of the broadest families of Geminaean weapons.

A cell seated in the weapon feeds stored Aethyr through internal conduits to wherever it is needed. In a ranged weapon, the energy is focused and released as a bolt or blast. In a melee weapon, it may charge a blade, heat an edge or add force to a strike. When the cell runs dry, it is swapped for a fresh one.

City watches, guild guards, soldiers and mercenaries carry flux-powered weapons for defense and combat. Larger versions are mounted on vehicles, walls and fortifications.

Because flux cells come in standard sizes and are common in larger cities, small flux-powered weapons are easier to keep supplied than many other forms of Aethyr technology. Heavier weapons and high-output cells are costly, and their sale is often regulated.

A weapon is only as safe as its cell. Damaged or overcharged cells can leak unstable Aethyr or rupture violently, and cheap counterfeits are a danger to anyone who relies on them in a fight.
