Smek-Azura (Gnome)
The Smek-Azura are the gnomes of Aradaea, one of the Smek heritages, also called azurans. They descend from the Dwek-Maka, the mountain dwarves, and over some 40,000 years both their homeland and what they ate there made them a people of their own.
Appearance
Section titled “Appearance”Gnomes are diminutive, around two and a half feet tall and about 50 pounds. Their skin comes in blues, greys and purples, their eyes are large and their ears floppy, and their hair is fine and straight in many colors, though many have little or none.
Society and Culture
Section titled “Society and Culture”Azuran society is a bureaucratic consortium of free states run on merit. Magical and technological discovery carries great prestige, and those who advance it rise furthest.
Homeland
Section titled “Homeland”Their homeland, Azura, is a republic of gnomish city-states in the foothills of the Grodraken Mountains, listed among Aradaea’s civilizations as the Strongholds of Azura. Its cities range from half-buried stonework to fortified wooden strongholds. Water from the Kolgaren snowmelt is scarce, so the gnomes rely on greenhouses, hydroponics and careful water reclamation.
Life Cycle
Section titled “Life Cycle”A gnome can expect to live around 250 years. Gnomes sense movement through the ground nearby.
Relations
Section titled “Relations”The Smek-Smirfna descend from them. Most speak Azuran Gnomish and Aethyrian Common.
