The Kadenfel Mountains

The Kadenfel Mountains are one of the Wilds of Ravena, the untamed lands beyond the moon’s great megalopolis. Steep ridges, sheer cliffs and narrow passes rise far above the city’s skyline, and a few high valleys lie sheltered among them. Because Ravena was forged from the remnants of a shattered world, the stone here is said to be old even by the standards of Aradaea and Vitaea.

The mountains are cold and windswept. Snow lingers on the peaks for much of the year, and sudden storms can cut off the passes for days at a time. In the lower foothills the weather is milder, closer to that of the city below.

Few people live in the Kadenfel year-round. Those who do include miners, hermits, herders and others who prefer distance from the city, and the hardy creatures that thrive at altitude.

Rockfalls, avalanches and the thin, freezing air threaten anyone who is unprepared. Predators hunt the high slopes, and parties that stray from known routes can easily lose their way.

The range is said to hide disused mine workings, lookout posts with views across the whole city, and caves that no one has fully explored. These draw prospectors, scholars and adventurers who are willing to make the climb.
