Copters

Copters are small flying craft that lift themselves with spinning rotors rather than the broad hulls of airships. They trade range and carrying capacity for agility, and can rise straight up, hover in place and set down in spaces far too tight for a larger vessel. They are one of the lighter forms of Geminaea’s transport.

A copter’s rotors are driven by an Aethyr engine, usually fed by flux cells or another compact store of Aethyr. The craft is steered by changing the angle and speed of its blades, which takes a trained pilot and constant attention.

Copters carry couriers, small parcels and a handful of passengers over short distances. They are suited to scouting, rescue work and reaching rooftops, cliffs and other places without a proper dock.

Copters are most common in large, wealthy cities, where there is fuel to spare and enough demand for quick, direct travel. Owning one privately is a mark of means, and most belong to guilds, merchants or city services.

A light craft has little protection against bad weather, sudden gusts or a failing cell. A crash from even a modest height is often fatal, and exposed rotors are dangerous to anyone standing nearby.
