Alchemical Bombs

Alchemical bombs are thrown or planted explosives filled with reactive alchemical mixtures. They are among the simplest and most widespread of Geminaea’s weapons, since they need no engine or power cell, only a sealed container, a volatile filling and a way to set it off.

A bomb’s casing holds one or more substances that burn, burst or release their contents when the container breaks or a fuse is lit. Some use fierce incendiaries such as alchemist’s fire. Others add material Aethyr, since a concentration of Lyrium or a similar substance that is agitated, ignited or struck can explode with chaotic potential, making the result far less predictable.

Soldiers and adventurers use alchemical bombs against groups of enemies, fortifications and creatures that resist ordinary blades. Miners and builders use milder blasting charges to break rock and clear ground.

Simple bombs can be made by any competent alchemist, and the ingredients are often easy to find. Stronger or Aethyr-laced bombs are harder to make and are usually restricted by guilds and city authorities.

Alchemical bombs are as dangerous to carry as to use. A cracked casing, a stray spark or a careless mix can set one off early, and poorly made bombs are known to injure the people throwing them.
