Aethyr Evolution

Aethyr evolution is the influence of Aethyr on the development of life in Geminaea. Every living being carries Aethyr within its biology, and over long ages that presence has accelerated and altered the natural course of evolution on both Aradaea and Vitaea.

The effect reaches back to the beginning. The Proma, the first sapient beings, were likely touched by Aethyr from the moment they arose, their capacity for thought and imagination tied to the Aethyrweave. As their beliefs grew more structured, that link deepened, and their collective consciousness gave rise to new gods and magical entities.

Among the peoples of today, magic is one of the most common causes of divergence. It set the proto-elves and proto-giants apart from Aradaea’s first humans and produced magically attuned peoples such as the Elemari and the Sylvari, whose bodies are bound to elemental or magical forces. Some individuals are born with a natural Source of Aethyr in their blood, a gift often passed down through families but also cultivated through exposure to the Aethyrweave.

The same forces shape plants and animals. Creatures in places where Aethyr gathers often develop magical traits, such as minor illusions for concealment or unusual physical strength.

The heritages of Geminaea record, for each people, whether magic played a part in its divergence.
