Walkers

Walkers are vehicles that move on mechanical legs instead of wheels or tracks. Slower than landships on open ground, they come into their own where the land is steep, broken or overgrown, stepping over obstacles that would stop any other kind of ground transport.

A walker’s legs are driven by an Aethyr engine, usually fed by flux cells or a larger fuel store, and coordinated by linkages, enchantments or a bound guiding intelligence that keeps the machine balanced. The craft draws on the same arcane engineering as constructs, though a walker is a vehicle with a crew or rider rather than a machine acting on its own.

Walkers carry riders and loads through mountains, forests and marshes. Larger versions haul heavy cargo or serve as mobile platforms for soldiers and weapons, while smaller ones are used for scouting and patrol.

Walkers are complex machines that need skilled builders and regular upkeep, so they are found mainly in industrial regions and in the service of armies, guilds and wealthy households.

A walker that loses its balance can topple with crushing force, and worn joints can fail without warning. Its height also makes it easy to spot from a distance.
